Galeria Leme presents “Desafiando Sonhos” (Defying Dreams) a solo show
by Nina Pandolfo. One of the pioneers of “street art” in Sao Paulo, the
artist started doing graffiti in 1992, and is part of a group that
brought graffiti to museums and art galleries.
In her second
solo exhibition at the gallery, the artist has started a new phase in
her work that recovers paintings produced with a brush but that still
preserve graffiti in details done with spray.
There will be new
canvases and an installation. The artist used new techniques such as led
lamps on one of the works. There is an elliptic canvas that had to be
made of iron due to its shape. This work has paintings on overlaid glass
and in the interior of the piece, thanks to motor engines, feathers fly
between the images. Nina Pandolfo's most recent production,
presents more mature and serene characters: the environment, colours and
shapes no longer allude to a childlike universe, reflecting the
maturation of the artist herself.
The title “Desafiando Sonhos”
(Defying Dreams) refers to the action of the artist of representing on
this exhibition oniric images and situations. For the first time, Nina
does an installation in Brazil, the work, with movement and light,
illustrates the idea of the title, a situation that we would never see
in real life.
Nina Pandolfo has participated of several national
and international exhibitions, among them: Life´s Flavour, Carmichael
Gallery of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, USA (2010); Re-Criation II,
Ogilvy & Mather New York, USA (2010); Graffiti Gone Global, Miami
Beach, USA (2009); Between Us, Gallery Maskara, Mumbai, India (2008);
The graffiti Project - painting at the facade of the Kelburn Castle,
Glasgow, Scotland (2007), among others. Nina Pandolfo was born in Tupa,
Sao Paulo in 1977. Lives and works in Sao Paulo
